This painting is a ‘nine-tych’, it measures a total of 2.25 x 3.00 meters. Here, in Norwegian Lapland, not far from Tromsø, where an offshoot of Finland almost reaches the Atlantic Ocean, the sun no longer sets in summer. This fjord at low tide, near Djupvik, about 50 km north of Skibotn in a bee-line, overlooks the Lyngfjord (or in Sami: the Ivgovuotna) and the high mountains of the Lyngfjellan peninsula. This region is known for its dry climate and clear skies. For that reason an astrophysical observatory was built in Skibotn.
